Description
English: This image shows the "Röhrensteg", the oldest still existing bridge in Zwickau (Saxony, Germany). It has been build the first time in 1350, but has been destroyed a few times due to high water. The current bridge as shown in the image has been built in 1790. This bridge was used to bring fresh water with wooden tubes («Röhren») into the city.
Deutsch: Dieses Bild zeigt den Röhrensteg, die älteste noch erhaltene Brücke von Zwickau. Der der Wasserversorgung der Stadt dienende Bau wurde 1350 das erste mal urkundlich erwähnt, jedoch durch Hochwasser der Mulde mehrfach zerstört und neu aufgebaut. 1790 entstand der Röhrensteg nach dem großen Hochwasser des Vorjahres nahezu in der heutigen, auf dem Bild sichtbaren Form. Das Trinkwasser wurde in durchbohrten Baumstämmen vom Reinsdorfer Grund in die Stadt geleitet.
