Permission granted

[edit]

Permission has been granted by me, see here after a half an hour of conversation with the artist, an old family friend, which I had not spoken to in more than 30 years. We had reconnected a decade ago via social media, yet I knew little about his personal situation. Now I learned about his current whereabouts as ongoing artist, selling his work online world wide, and international golf photographer in Portugal and Spain. But for here more important was, that he was hardly familiar with CC licencing and not at all with the conditions on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. His main concern was that the images I had uploaded here or imported from Flickr (of which he had been aware) where rather outdated. He promised to created an account and upload some recent work of his own. More important was that he had not understood the request for permission I had send him last week.

This all made me realize, that these things are hard to comprehend. In this matter of the permission I explicitly ask for his permission which he gave verbally and even made a joke about, where he had to sign. Now I been in several similar situations before, which half of the time didn't work out fine. There was to much pressure about the deadline and things to explain a lot. Therefor here I took an alternative path to first agree based on the verbal agreement, which was subject of discussion in another case as well. In time I will formalize this agreement with a written one, but I think artists should first experience some more what they are signing up for. I am well aware that this is an alternative approach, in a time where there is lot's of discussion elsewhere. It is an experiment which I would like to keep going right now and present to the Wikimedia Commmons community later on. -- Mdd (talk) 22:20, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
