This is dated circa 1900, but the first airplane didn't fly over Cairo until about 1910. In addition, the image clearly shows that almost all of the houses once built along the mosque wall have already been removed and the Gayer-Anderson house (now museum) is free-standing. The American University in Cairo credits the photo as "the Egyptian Army Air Force (by courtesy of the Ministry of War and Marine) Please acknowledge to O.C. Egyptian Army Air Force Almaza Aerodrome Heliopolis."
