Misleading details in figure

[edit]

Hello, I think there are two mistakes in this figure:

  • the leading edge (where the chord starts) should be the point of maximum curvature, not just the foremost point of the airfoil;
  • the relative wind is measured far ahead of the airfoil, not in the vicinity where both the velocity and the angle change strongly. The three arrows drawn here suggest otherwise.

I suggest replacing this figure with File:Wing profile nomenclature.svg (disclaimer: I am the author). Any thoughts? Ariadacapo (talk) 17:23, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am progressively replacing this diagram in various articles, as proposed above. I have also made a version specifically to illustrate the notion of chord length. Feedback is welcome. Ariadacapo (talk) 09:05, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have replaced all uses of this file which illustrated specifically the chord length with Image:Chord length definition (en).svg. So now, I think that for all the other uses, Image:Wing profile nomenclature.svg is a better illustration, thus the superseded tag. Ariadacapo (talk) 10:02, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
