Bob Feller (signature on left baseball)
[edit]I'm fairly certain the signature on the baseball on the left of this image is that of "Bob Feller" an American baseball player. Here are links that support that idea:
- Bob Feller wikipedia page shows there was a significant "Bob Feller" in baseball, and shows a photo of an autographed "Bob Feller" baseball (closely resembling the signature on the baseball on the left of this photo): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Feller
- Bob Feller page on Baseball Almanac has a photo of a "Bob Feller" signature (closely resembling the signature on the baseball on the left of this photo) on a baseball card: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=fellebo01
As for the inscription on that top left baseball, I believe that is "HOF 62" (short for "Hall of Fame 1962"). Here is the only evidence I found online that "Bob Feller" of the Cleveland Indians was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame (now located in Cooperstown, New York, USA), in 1962:
- Britannica Online mentions this as a fact: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Bob-Feller
- Baseball Hall of Fame article: https://baseballhall.org/discover/inside-pitch/feller-robinson-elected-to-hall-of-fame
I am very new to researching signatures on Wikimedia Commons and I hope this was helpful. Fallendarlin (talk) Fallendarlin (talk) 13:15, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Al Kaline (sigature on middle baseball)
[edit]I'm fairly certain the signature on the baseball in the middle of this image is that of "Al Kaline" an American baseball player who played his whole career for the Detroit tigers. Here is a link that supports that idea:
- Al Kaline wikipedia page shows there was a significant "Al Kaline" in baseball: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Kaline
- Baseball Almanac shows an autographed baseball card with the "Al Kaline" signature: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=kalinal01
- a Sports Memorabilia website showing many autographed items with "Al Kaline" signature: https://www.sportsmemorabilia.com/al-kaline/baseballs/a-124044+d-63666644+z-9442-3694899623

Brooks Robinson (signature on right baseball)
[edit]I'm fairly certain the signature on the baseball on the right of this image is that of "Brooks Robinson" an American baseball player who played his whole career for the Baltimore Orioles. Here are links that support that idea:
- Brooks Robinson wikipedia page shows there was a significant "Brooks Robinson" in baseball: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks_Robinson
- the Brooks Robinson official website www.brooksrobinson.com shows a link to an autographed baseball with the "Brooks Robinson" signature matching the one in this photo: https://brooksrobinsondirect.mybigcommerce.com/brooks-robinson-16-gold-gloves-baseball/
- Baseball Almanac shows a "Brooks Robinson" autograph which is very similar to the one in this photo: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=robinbr01

Frank J Shaughnessy (signature on top baseball)
[edit]I'm absolutely certain the signature on the 4th (top) baseball in this photo is of Frank J. Shaughnessy, who was a sports figure. Here are links that support that idea:
- Frank Shaughnessy wikipedia page shows there was a significant "Frank Shaughnessy" in sports, baseball, football, hockey: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Shaughnessy
- Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame page for Frank Shaughnessy, showing he was significant in Canada baseball as well: https://baseballhalloffame.ca/hall-of-famer/frank-shaughnessy/
- I found many images of "Frank Shaughnessy", "Frank J Shaughnessy", and "F J Shaughnessy" signatures on baseballs and letters online, but the best one is an actual image of the same "official" "International League" baseball which features this same stamped signature of "Frank J Shaughnessy" with a solid 5-point star beneath the middle of the signature, and the abbreviation "PRES." beneath the end of the signature. The signature in that photo is a lot less worn/faded than the photo in our image, so it is easier to make out the letters: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/XAcAAOSwrvhksBHb/s-l1600.jpg
