There is no historical document or description that is endorsed by this flag. There is only one reference to a red flag and the shield with chains and emerald in 1423, in a law enacted by King Carlos III, the so-called "Privilegio de la Union", where it describes as it is currently.

It is speculated, but it is, therefore, pure hypothesis that formerly the shield, that not the flag, will carry shields and not chains. But, of course, it is not transferable to a flag. This type of documents false directly and literally the story while fusing the works of researchers and historians that have on the scientific method its work basis.
