Kosovo

With all the reverting that has been going on here, I'm shocked I can't find an ongoing discussion about this. Earlier this week I was looking for a blank map of Europe which included Kosovo and was confused to find two duplicate files, this one, and File:Blank map europe (Kosovo as part of Serbia).svg. Now the names can be changed, but there should be a version of each available on the commons. And users must avoid duplicate files, otherwise one of these should be marked with Template:Duplicate. I definitely don't want a third file posted without solving this dispute. I posted a message to the disputes noticeboard, so lets get this solved quick.--Patrick «» 17:35, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the protection. I've watched the edit warring for over two years now, with some frustration. I have in the past needed a map that included Kosovo, and could never be sure if any given time this would include it. We do now have a dashed line on File:Blank map of Europe.svg but that's not suitable for all situations. Further, I was frustrated to see User:Avala declare theirs the "most neutral version" without discussion here or elsewhere. As long as there are options with and without, I'm fine with what ever filenames they have, but since "File:Blank map europe (Kosovo as part of Serbia).svg" has existed since 2008, just keep the other version here.-- Patrick, _oѺ^∞ 13:56, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

I am frustrated to see that Albanian-POV version is named the autoritative map of Europe here. If we want to show all the disputed territories, why not add TRNC or Abkhazia with South Ossetia as well? Artem Karimov (talk) 19:45, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Well, no! This image should be without Kosovo, as Kosovo is not UN member, as original file didnt included Kosovo, and as majority of the world didnt recognizes Kosovo as independant. File:Blank map europe (Kosovo as part of Serbia).svg should be deleted, as fork, and new map, with independent Kosovo should be added, with info (I will add that). Also, original file didnt included Kosovo, so i reverted to that version, par that. User:Cradel POV pushed Kosovo in this map back in 2008, and then the same user created File:Blank map europe (Kosovo as part of Serbia).svg, in order to protect his POV. Then, he reverted Kosovo back in this image 20 TIMES!! Edit warring on a vast scale. --WhiteWriter ^speaks 13:37, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Done, see File:Blank map europe (with Kosovo).svg, Versions (with and without Kosovo) was added numerous times before, and many disputes where fixed like that. We agreed that way, as the best solution to fix problem. User:Axpde, global admin, i, and several other editors agreed on that, and participated in this.. Also, RfC on meta was held about question of maps with and without Kosovo, so, please, dont be deceived that Kosovo should be regarded as legitimate independant state. Kosovo is disputed region, unrecognised by international organisations, and should be regarded as such. Also, majority of the world still finds Kosovo as part of Serbia. This map should not include disputed provinces and regions, and therefor, neither Kosovo, nor Abkhazia nor South Ossetia. And, at the end, Kosovo is subject of the WP:ARBMAC editing restrictions on en wiki, and all of these should be edited with care. Wikipedia is not propaganda tool. Please, contact me before editing this file. And the very end, original version of the file didn't included Kosovo, so now File:Blank map europe (with Kosovo).svg exist. Two images. People may chose which one to use. That's the way commons should work. Question should be local, and not on commons. Map is Broken

Hello. Only the first uploaded version of this map is geometrically correct. There already are problems in the second map, for instance:

• some islands are missing (i.e. Malta is missing from the map despite the fact that it appears in the source code, in the first version it is OK)
• some countries are not in their correct position, leading to gaps along their borders (see border Russia - Kazakhstan)

On the other hand, the first version

• has no ids, no classes (i.e. no geographic objects)
• has no lakes
• was changed by several users who did a lot of work

My version is not rendered correctly by the Wiki Software. I do not know why this is the case, but it does not make a difference in my opinion. The map is broken in any case and has to be rebuilt based on the first version. Anka Friedrich (talk) 19:40, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
