I am heartbroken to read that Pyle's "Bunker Hill" is missing and presumed stolen. As a child my family had a 12 volume History of the United States published by Time in I believe 1963. This painting was included in the series and it enthralled my imagination and was part of my lifelong love of art and history. You could truly "smell the gunpowder" and feel the steel resolve of His Majesties Troops as they yet again made their assault on the colonial redoubt. Howard Pyle was a genius in capturing our feelings with his work. I would have loved to have viewed the original "Bunker Hill".
