Copyright status[edit]

The image is an old photograph from 1896, which has been uploaded to Apollo - the University of Cambridge repository: https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/214805

There, the file is listed as belonging to the collection "Images from the Institute of Astronomy Library."

That collection description states "The original images in this collection are out of copyright. However, we ask you to acknowledge the preservation and scanning of the original by making acknowledgement to "University of Cambridge, Institute of Astronomy Library" with any public use of the scanned images. Please contact ioalib[AT]ast.cam.ac.uk for any enquiries." as per https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/214761 .

Thus, the image is clearly described as "out of copyright" by the owners of the image. As a university library, it makes sense to assume that the owners know what they are talking about here.

So no, I think the bot got it wrong. (And incidentally, this information was on the image description page from the very beginning.)
