Grand Forks?

[edit]

I took a screen shot from Google. Looking North from 3rd St. just north of Market Ave. The mountain looks very similar. --Canoe1967 (talk) 03:01, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks....the two on teh lower right, or one of them anyway, is Nakusp, says so right on it.Remaming issue is which river is that, the Kettle or the Granby, could be used to illustrate their articles....Skookum1 (talk) 08:23, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The one on the lower, bottom right, above the Nakusp pic, may be Arrowhead, see here. There's some other Arrowhead pics that don't show that hillside, but ..... Skookum1 (talk) 09:26, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is Nakusp, I zoomed in to read the writing on it. Can't make out what's on the river picture near Grand Forks; doesn't look like either Kettle or Granby, must be a creek...the from above view says Grand Forks right on it as it turns out, once I zoomed in....pity all these don't have better resolution, some are kinda cool. Not sure how much of that is the scan rate or printer's blurriness. Whatever, neat pics, I've cropped a few of them, the one with the train in it I'm gonna enhance (of Nakusp) and one of the Arrowhead ones has a train in it too, they can be used to illustrate t he local railway routes; check out what I found for Halycon, BC......rare pic of that place. West Kootenay-Slocan-Arrow Lakes was a booming place for a long time.....Skookum1 (talk) 19:04, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
ach, I know why I dropped by, I've just finished cropping some of those and was gonna have a smoke and go to bed, it's 2 am......but that one at upper left, at first I thought it might be a residential school, well maybe it was; all the kids are blonde.....and maybe young teens; this would be a 1-12 building, and damn it's a nice piece of brick and stonework. A sign how much money there was in the area at the time, and how much building talent. Wondering now if those are Doukhobor kids, gonna have to consult the date in the morning and do some digging. Again, pity there's not better resolution available. I realize these were only postcards though, and also maybe not done on an 8x12 though that's what most photogs did have back then....Skookum1 (talk) 19:08, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I emailed the Doukhobors in Castlegar with a link to this file. I think the three on the right with the mountain could all be the same mountain near Grand Forks but at different angles. With many of these images we may never know. We could ask Andrew Gray if they do have larger versions of some. We could even ask if he wants to try a microscope on some to see if the handwriting shows up better.--Canoe1967 (talk) 20:17, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
