copyright status[edit]

See here for a discussion about the copyright status of works from the isafmedia Flickr account. User:Dereckson makes a convincing case for putting media from this Flickr account on the FlickrWash list meaning no automatic approval for use on Commons. I would agree with this, meaning each upload must be evaluated on a case by case basis. I don't agree with automatic blacklisting of all media from this source, however, as a very significant proportion of the media is clearly the work of US military personnel and therefore public domain. I believe it is unreasonable to assume that in this case the photograph is NOT the work of US military personnel given that Americans are depicted and most importantly because it was assigned a US military identifier.--Brian Dell (talk) 23:36, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Separately, I would argue that the CC-BY-2.0 designation at flickr is legitimate.
    • The account appears to be legitimately connected to the ISAF. Unless there's another reason to question the validity of the specific image's
    • The uploading account has been cited by news organizations as the original source of the image (i.e. As their secret dissolved, Petraeus, Broadwell both attended awards dinner at NBC News, which cites the image to "ISAF via Reuters file".)
    • There's no evidence of previous publishing of the image from a different source.
    • There are literally 1,000+ contemporary images in that same photo set of Gen. Petraeus meeting with coalition personnel--including low level support staff. Including 2 additional photos of Gen. Petraeus and Ms. Broadwell. That uploading pattern is not consistent with flickrwashing.
