CLOSED:

Most of the comments I made on here were completely erroneous (although I didn’t know that at the time); so to hopefully prevent someone from actually nominating a perfectly good picture for deletion. I am closing this discussion. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:84FB:7141:8A0:F870 20:33, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!

[edit]

The file was MOST DEFINITELY NOT PRODUCED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE! It is likely NOT in the public domain. DELETE! DELETE! DELETE! 12.74.221.43 17:46, 21 May 2024 (UTC) [reply]

Scott Beckwith does NOT work for the National Weather Service 12.74.221.43 17:47, 21 May 2024 (UTC) [reply]
He worked for the Jerrell Farm Supply at the time. 12.74.221.43 17:48, 21 May 2024 (UTC) [reply]
Was going to remove this entry. But don’t have no account and it won’t let me delete this entry. Was there any news on the deletion discussion? Was it declared PD? 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:C880:77F7:32D9:420E 05:14, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It’s on a NWS document, and is PD. :) MemeGod27 (talk) 10:27, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Who made the photo doesn’t matter, he released the image into the public domain by giving it to STORMDATA (see attached source) MemeGod27 (talk) 10:28, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well there is still a deletion discussion on it. A rather heated discussion on it right now. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:98A4:5503:A222:FE57 01:17, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And furthermore; what source @MemeGod27? 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:98A4:5503:A222:FE57 01:17, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What source implies that he released it into the public domain? What source? Because we’ve got a heated deletion discussion going on right now (that I’ll admit am partially to blame for making it “heated”, but that’s besides the point), if there is information that actually supports the claim that this is in the public domain. I need to know. @WeatherWriter needs to know. There are several people who need to know. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:98A4:5503:A222:FE57 03:41, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Photograph is public domain as Scott Beckwith, the author of the photograph, understood the photograph was put into the public domain. This policy has been help up in the past. See Commons:Deletion requests/File:The Andover, Kansas EF3 tornado.jpg, which was another photograph (with watermark) that was on an NWS website, which I personally nominated for deletion. If it is on a weather.gov website without the exact copyright (©) watermark, it is public domain. I.e., this image is public domain. WeatherWriter (talk) 03:59, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Scott Beckwith released the photo into the public domain. The photo is PD. MemeGod27 (talk) 23:31, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
CLARIFICATION: Ok, I only just now noticed this. Apparently there are TWO separate (yet very similar) pictures of the tornado. Please ignore this entire discussion (about wanting this picture nominated for deletion) because apparently this is an entirely different picture from the one that is nominated for deletion. The picture that is nominated for deletion is titled File:Dead Man Walking Jarrell 1997.jpg, which clearly has two major vortices on the ground; this file is titled File:Dead man walking Jarrell.jpg only has ONE vortex on the ground; with a smaller satellite vortex. This is the one that was on the publication. @WeatherWriter is right about the other apparently not being on the publication. I promise I wasn’t lying or acting in bad faith; I truly had no idea there were multiple similar photos on Wikimedia Commons. Oops. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:84FB:7141:8A0:F870 20:20, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please ignore above topic; and sorry for the inconvenience

[edit]

I erroneously thought that there was only one picture taken by Scott Beckwith of the dead man walking tornado. Turns out there were two. I have struck through all my comments supporting deletion. If I can; I’m going to try to close the discussion. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:84FB:7141:8A0:F870 20:30, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Follow up: I have closed the above discussion. I reiterate that I am deeply sorry for any trouble I have caused on the other deletion discussion. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:84FB:7141:8A0:F870 20:36, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dead Man Walking Jarrell 1997.jpg; this is the actual deletion discussion. Please refer to that page for additional information. And please direct any comments on the file being nominated to that page. Do not comment on this discussion unless it is explicitly about THIS image. Thank you. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:84FB:7141:8A0:F870 20:55, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
