The fish in the image is not a Diplodus annularis: this species is clearly distinguishable by the pelvic fins yellow (not present in the image). The brown vertical stripes suggest it could be Diplodus sargus. --Esculapio 15:31, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can add, basing my osservation on Patrick Louisy. Trainito, Egidio (a cura di) Guida all'identificazione dei pesci marini d'Europa e del Mediterraneo. Milano, Il Castello, 2006. ISBN 888039472X:
  • D. sargus: dark edged operculum, 9 stripes (tending to disappear sometimes), black spot near the caudal fin, not extending to the lower border of the pedunculum.
  • D. annularis: yellow pelvic and sometimes partially yellow anal fin, black ring spot on the caudal pedunculum.
So I agree with Esculapio. Bye --yorunomsg 16:26, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
