  • Why do most terms on the poster start with a capital letter (like "Atmosphere"), only the word "earth" does not, although it is a name of a planet?
Sun & moon can refer to any star or satellite the the makes it clear that were talking about the star we orbit & the big gray thing that revolves around our planet. Earth is like the specific name for the planet, that's why it and the Europa & Titan posters don't actually use the thes.—Love, Kelvinsong talk 13:55, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[回复]
You explained the use of the definite article, but at the same time your argument that we are not talking about any sun and any moon, but the Sun and the Moon means there should be capital letters, otherwise it could be more misleading then omitting the definite articles. If Earth is a specific name for the planet, there should be the capital letter too. Jan Kameníček (talk) 14:20, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[回复]
@Jan.Kamenicek: "earth" should absolutely be changed to "Earth" in this graphic. But does anyone have the tools to do it? BirdValiant (留言) 18:42, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[回复]
I do. And will now attempt to do so. A loose necktie (留言) 15:12, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[回复]
I thought I did, but I get an error when I open the file and am not able to edit the text content, which is the opposite of what SVG file formatting is supposed to be about. Apparently the text was converted to SVG outlines, and is no longer editable. Also, I attempted to make the callout line corrections suggested below, but when I saved the file, it regenerated the image without the planet (don't know why). Ideally, the original uploader should be able to fix these things, esp. as the file was produced with outlined fonts. A loose necktie (留言) 15:27, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[回复]
On a second attempt (with some difficulty) was able to finally do this. "Earth" now has a capital "E". Also thickened the callout lines as mentioned below, and removed some labels that were either confusing or that pointed to unidentifiable parts of the image. Image is also now W3C valid, which it was not before. A loose necktie (留言) 23:28, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[回复]
The kerning as a result of this was all kinds of messed up. The E visibly protruded below the extent of the other text. There was also a couple label lines left over, and for some reason a good part of the atmosphere was missing. I have replaced the labels entirely so they should all now be text editable, so in future it should be easier to do so, and generally cleaned up the image to be more like it was. I was tempted to reinstate the original labels (and correct continental crust to be andesitic rather than granitic) but for now I have tried to match the previous iteration. The label placement kinda sucks now since it's so sparse, I'm happy to address that too if folks are okay with significant modifications to it. I have uploaded the label adjusted version here. Version just with the fixed labels and no location alteration here. I cannot replace this image as I am not autopatrolled. Xiphosura (留言) 04:36, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[回复]

Callout lines are invisible at thumbnail resolution[编辑]

Beautiful diagram. At thumbnail resolution, e.g w:Mantle (geology), the white callout lines are barely visible in both chromium and Firefox. Make them the same width as the strokes of the letters. Also if "earth" was moved down, all the callout lines except the two kinds of crust could be horizontal, making it easier to scan. -- S Page (WMF) (talk) 00:34, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[回复]
