2020 update for discussion[編輯]

Looking at the upload history, I see Fry1989 has very reasonably asked for discussion on this matter, and that this has not taken place. Therefore I will open the bidding by saying the version uploaded in March 2020 by FJDEACKB is markedly superior to the version at present, I think OMGShay will agree. Neither is ideal though; I think the saltire is unreasonably skinny and needlessly at variance with the old flag, but I would settle for the much better royal arms and less garish red colour of the 2020 version. I have to firmly oppose the version originally brought by FJDEACKB. The 3D effects, especially in the crown, are not reflective of real world flags and are particularly difficult to replicate on fabric without looking very gimmicky. By extension, my position also applies to the other Jersey flags, which I had not noticed were also altered. Fry1989 eh? 16:53, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[回覆]
Fry1989 How's it look now? I added back in the better arms but I've taken out the 3D stuff; it's a bit more "realistic" now. TBH I think the images should take advantage of the technology; anyone using these files to [print actual flags is going to end up with an inferior result anyway, but I see your point that it's not possible to sew such things. I would say that is a significant improvement. I am curious what others may have to say, however. Fry1989 eh? 17:44, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[回覆]

I also think this version is a significant improvement and a happy compromise. Frankly I think anything would be better than what was there before which was fine but extremely dated. I still maintain that 3D effects as in coats of arms are suitable for flags but as there is no consensus I am happy to let it lie and I think the current version courtesy of GPinkerton should remain. Thanks to those above. FJDEACKB (留言) 23:37, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[回覆]

I have been watching this file for the last couple of years. I am really glad that the 3D effects have finally been removed! I do not believe that any sort of 3D effects and/or pastel colors should be used on any flag. The best flags have a small number of highly contrasting colours.
Also, I think the jewels on the crown could be removed because they add to much detail, but I don't feel strongly enough about that to either complain or do it myself.
All of us (i.e. anybody bothering to read or contribute to this talk page) sit about 12 inches from or monitors staring at flags on Wikimedia. Some of us tend to forget that in the real world flags are normally viewed from 20 to 2000 feet away; yes I just made those numbers up but I think they are reasonable.
If any of you have not read this short article I would encourage you to do so now: [1]. MapGrid (留言) 01:06, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[回覆]
@GPinkerton, MapGrid, and Fry1989: I think this is the best source for the flag. Kamran.nef (留言) 00:05, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[回覆]
I believe that that is a very good representation, although I think a thin darker outline of the crown would be best (as is currently the case as has been on previous revisions). Fry1989 eh? 14:11, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[回覆]
I think it should be without the jewels. That's the important part. Kamran.nef (留言) 16:19, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[回覆]
Why is the British flag institute a better source than the government of Jersey? The gov.je website clearly shows the official rendition of the flag of Jersey. It should not matter what other sources' interpretation of the flag is when there is an official source. As such, it appears that the file used in 2014 is more accurate to the design in wide-spread and official use here in Jersey. NorseNorman (留言) 11:08, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[回覆]
@Fry1989 Please see read this comment with regard to the recent revision, thank you. NorseNorman (留言) 19:16, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[回覆]
@NorseNorman: That is not an official rendition. It is clearly a copy of the historical revision from here on Commons, and it is so blurry from them taking a smaller resolution and blowing it up which would never happen with an official drawing created by the Government of Jersey itself. @Fry1989 Thank you very much for clarifying. I will look through the Jersey Archive to see if there are any other renditions of the flag that can help contribute to the sources we have. NorseNorman (留言) 17:22, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[回覆]
