There's nothing to sort out I really think you are wasting your time. The corporate logo of the city of Ottawa belongs to the city of Ottawa. Period. The copyright belongs to them and we have the right to use it on Wikimedia as long as we do not alter the image (like a LOT of stuff out there on Wiki) and that we do not use to try giving the impression the city endorses or approves content on Wikimedia. You cannot possibly say that right now it is not the correct license.. --Deenoe 01:47, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

As for the alteration of the image, while it is true that not many photos have been changed on Wikipedia or Wikimedia, most of them do not have a license that says "Please do not change it." Even if this image cannot go into the public domain, I want to work it out with the City to see if we can use a free license somewhow (such as Creative Commons Share Alike w/ Abtribution). We can't really use the jpeg image from the Ottawa website since not only the flag is in the wrong ratio, but someone (other than me) will go around and make an SVG image for it or restore the one that I did, putting us back to sqaure one. (I have hidden text here, press edit to see it) Though my question is, if I am not able to claim PD on this flag image, though if I draw it myself, what other images of mine will be affected? I understand the point about that you drew it yourself, but it's just a redraw of the flag of City, and the corporate logo of the city, which both belong to the City of Ottawa. As for Mr. Peter Mabee's email, I send it to you via Commons email. As for the other flags, I am in the process of drawing Montreal's flag, I did Chadwick, BC (I have a list of what I have done) but I am not sure if the cities allowed the modification or not. Honestly, the corporate logo thingie is probably what is screwing with my mind, and this issue, and I know many Canadian cities are using a word-mark or logo on their flags. And since the flag contains nothing but the copyrighted Ottawa wordmark "O," then it can be copyrighted? Alright. What I am going to ask for, unless you beat me to it, is to have a Creative Commons license attached to the image. It will be CC-BY-SA; credit goes to myself and the City of Ottawa and the city can say "The use of the flag image doesn't imply endorsement from the City of Ottawa." While I wish for modification to be allowed, I do not expect the modification to happen much. I done most of my modifications in the past, including changing the ratio from 2:3 to 1:2. The only modifications that I can think of is trying to get the Pantone (or CMYK) shades correct and maybe reducing the SVG code. I struck an agreement with Mr. Mabee. In exchange for the information I received, I promised to stop editing this image, due to the near perfection of how it is.
