Source?[edit]

@Illegitimate Barrister: Could you please provide a source for these colours? It is quite clear that the flag used in 1991—92 was different, it is obvious from images from that time, e.g. File:Український прапор реліквія 1991.jpg. However, I could not find any evidence which colours were used in 1992–2006 (and I was the one who found the official colours from the 2006 standard). There are no sources saying that colours have changed in 2006, on the contrary, sources rather state that colours were merely precisely defined in 2006. The 1992 document is really a one-pager, so it could not have defined exact shades. A good reference is this 1992 stamp dedicated to the approval of the flag, and its colours are extremely close to File:Flag of Ukraine.svg but not to this file. The fact that colours changed in 2006 is decently unusual, and given that it's already widely use I think we need reliable sources to prove this change of shade even happened. Thanks — NickK (talk) 00:30, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another good source can be the use of shades in the early 2000s (when Internet was already widespread). For instance, we have a widely recognisable in Ukraine photo of Viktor Yushchenko ka:ფაილი:Yushchenko OurUkraine.jpg (uploaded in 2006 and clearly pre-2004) showing File:Flag of Ukraine.svg instead of these shades. Or the official 1999 photo of Leonid Kuchma also shows flags in File:Flag of Ukraine.svg shades, same as this one from 20021 or this 2002 photo clearly made in a government building. What we can clearly say is that flag colours were very variable in early 2000s, e.g. this flag from 2002 is obviously dark, while this one from 2001 is too light. But these shades do not seem to be common at least in the 2000s — NickK (talk) 01:10, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You're asking the wrong guy; I merely uploaded the file. Pinging @Akhristov: , as he made the file back in 2006. – Illegitimate Barrister (talkcontribs), 00:35, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Illegitimate Barrister: In this case I would suggest deleting this file.
As with many flags uploaded to Commons, early versions did not meet any standards and lacked sources, they were drawings of early Wikimedians who mastered SVG and drew flags based on what they could find in early days of the Internet. The specific version you uploaded here was a very short-lived attempt, online between 21:11, 15 October 2006 UTC and 21:16, 15 October 2006 UTC. As Akhristov himself reverted this version almost immediately, I assume it was a failed attempt and he had picked a wrong set of colours. A relevant discussion is here: Akhristov was merely trying to reproduce a flag using this photo from the website of the President of Ukraine (clearly not the best quality but that what was available back in 2006).
If you agree with the deletion as the original uploader, I am fine with it happening ASAP. Otherwise I would wait a week or so in case you or someone else finds sources and will open a DR afterwards — NickK (talk) 17:13, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
