Is this really the Flag of Sudan??[edit]

This file has been used on a great many articles on en wiki and elsewhere, but I don't see any evidence that it was the one and only flag used by the Mahdists, much less as the national flag of Sudan during that period. The British museum page only states that it was "associated with the Mahdi" and that it was acquired in 1949. It would be nice if the uploader, or any other involved party, would provide some evidence that it was indeed the only flag of the Mahdi movement, in order to justify its current title and usage on various wiki projects.
