Transparent?[edit]

Is it meaning that parts of the flag should be transparent? DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 12:10, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Ratio? Should be 2:3[edit]

Hello, I was noticing the flag of Martinique displaying with significantly shorter horizontal length, making it look smaller than other flags eg. on pages like this one. I did some looking and don't think the current ratio is correct. In practice, the flag seems to have a 2:3 ratio like France's. See these links: Flag 1Flag 2Flag 3. I can't find any real-life examples where the flag has the shorter ratio. If we could fix this it would be great as the flag wouldn't stand out so much. @SiBr4: @Jfblanc: — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fv4900 (talk • contribs) 05:19, 4 April 2020‎ (UTC)[reply]

@Fv4900 and Jfblanc: Pings don't work without a signature. I got here from en:Template talk:Country data Martinique.
I based the dimensions on the image on this site (which was used as a source for the new flag on en:Flag of Martinique at the time). That image is 400 by 564 pixels, which I simplified to a 5:7 ratio (i.e. 400:560). A more authoritative source still present on the enWP article links to a PDF vector version of the flag from the collectivity's own website; it has similar proportions, but is slightly narrower, being very close to 8:11 (400:550). I have now also found the relevant article there; its image is 543×768, or about 400:566.
This is all based on flat digital images of the flag; it's harder to determine dimensions from photographs, though I agree the flag seems to be much wider in your links (I'd even say wider than 2:3). Since there is probably no official ratio, and the collectivity itself is inconsistent, I'm happy to make a 2:3 version. I'd prefer to have it as a separate file, though, keeping a version using the PDF's 8:11 since it's the closest to an official version of the flag we have. My guess is practical ratio used by French flagmakers should be 2:3, but no official text is stating this a per now. --Jfblanc (talk) 12:20, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK sounds good- if we could put the new version as a template for the small icon (eg. football teams), even better :)‎

Moving file to "Flag of the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique (2019-2021).svg"[edit]

I suggest moving the file to the above name which specifies the dates of use. The decision to adopt the flag was annulled by the local council in 2021 and it is no longer a recognized symbol of the region. According to the decision "this flag and this anthem can no longer be used as emblems by the territorial collectivity of Martinique"[1] Therefore this is no longer the flag of the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique and renaming the files will help avoid confusion.
