Fact disputed

[edit]

The file name and description indicate that it is based on John White's illustration of a fort at Guyanilla Bay. However, the image actually appears to be based on a different White illustration, of the fort built at Salinas Bay. Note the large mound of salt within the fortifications, which was obtained in Salinas Bay.

It's probably also worth mentioning that I can find no source for the claim that an English fort in Puerto Rico (either of them) was named "Fort Elizabeth," except the (dead) URL for the 2011 Examiner.com article where this image apparently came from. (link to archived page) The idea that the forts at Roanoke Island "likely" resembled the one in this image similarly seems to originate from the article. Given Examiner.com's reputation on Wikipedia, I am inclined to doubt these claims unless I can find a more reliable source. --Jim Into Mystery (talk) 14:49, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
