I was very pleased to find this map on Wikipedia/Wikicommons, as clear representations of the Germantown landowners of 1689 are difficult to find. Unfortunately, there are some serious problems with this map.

This map purportedly shows Germantown in 1689, and 1714. However, it includes the area north of the Original Germantown tract that was included in the Germantown Burrough much later than the dates given here. In anycase, the lots on the right side of the map did not extend as far as is shown here. That makes this an inaccurate representation of the Germantown in either 1689 or 1714.

The original map on which this is based is supposed to be in the Mennonite Meetinghouse in Germantown. It may well be, but not enough information is given to identify it. There are numerous maps of early Germantown, some quite detailed, others rather sketch. Those maps were prepared by different cartographers at different times, and it is normal to identify the map by the cartographer's name, and the date. Absent that, it is difficult to tell the librarian at the "Mennonite Meetinghouse" what is being sought.
