Stone/know and law[edit]

There seems to be a mistake in the chart: it says stone and know came to be pronounced [o̞ː] around 1700, and then law also became pronounced [o̞ː] in 1750. This implies that stone, know and law merged in pronunciation, but that didn't happen at any time as far as I know, either in the English of southern England or in America. Stone and know have always had different vowels from law. It's more likely that law came to be pronounced [ɒː] sometime in the 1700s or 1800s, but I'm not sure. — Eru·tuon 08:33, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
