Hexagonal[edit]

One thing that should perhaps be noted about this beautiful image is that presenting it as a panorama has introduced the possibly of a slight error - that is, in the image it looks like we are seeing five sides of a regular octagon. Presented with this, and the claim that the hall is a hexagon, you might be tempted either to assume that the claim is an error or, that if it is a hexagon, it must be an irregular one with a single side behind the viewer joining the sides that we can see at extreme L&R.

In fact, the hall is indeed a hexagon (please see [1] for examples; and indeed it is a regular hexagon - see [2], page 10.

I'm not saying that this is a big problem or that the image should not be used - I think it's wonderful. It's just that I saw in the article en:United States Holocaust Memorial Museum where someone had changed it from octagonal to hexagonal; initially thought that this was a mistake; did some checking; and came here to record what I found in the hope that it might be useful to others.
