This is a picture of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Istanbul (Tepebaşı) [1]. It´s not the consulate general which is in the Palazzo Venezia (ex embassy of the Republic of Venice), located in Beyoğlu. Please correct this and, if possible, add a picture of the Italian Consulate in Beyoğlu. Thank you. -- 200.12.61.94 17:30, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to confirm what the above IP wrote about 10 years ago, without appropriate corrections having been made so far. It is NOT the Italian Consulate General in Istanbul which is located within the Venedik Sarayi Complex, adjacent to the Palazzo di Venezia, about 300 meters southeast of the Italian Cultural Institute. The building shown here was the embassy of the Kingdom of Sardinia to the Ottoman Empire from 1823 to 1861, and then the Embassy of united Italy from 1861 to 1915. When the Ottoman Empire surrendered, the Kingdom of Italy ceized the Palazzo di Venezia Complex that had been the embassy of the Republic of Venice until 1797, and later, from 1815 to 1918, the embassy of Austria-Hungary, another defeated Central Power Country. When the Italian Embassy to the Turkish Republic was transferred to its new capital Ankara, the Palazzo di Venezia became the second residence of the Italian Ambassador, while an adjacent building in the Venedik Sarayi Complex has hosted the Italian Consulate ever since. There has never been an Italian Consulate General in the building shown in this file. Please rename the file accordingly (and please have a look at the IIC Istanbul's homepage. --LKIT2 (talk) 00:12, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
