This picture was on exhibition in London a few years ago, and I found it captivaing. I moved away from it to look at other exhibits, but kept being drawn back to it. I must say, that the reproduction on the associated Wiki page, does not do the true colours justice. Having seen so many Madonna pictures that are small and dark, the scale and brilliance of Petrov-Vodkin's creation is something magnificant, and brings the madonna into the twentieth century (if one can say that). I could look at it all day.
