Not Lobera[edit]

The pictured sword appears to be "Sword of Ferdinand" from the Seville Cathedral, discussed in Hoffmeyer, Ada Bruhn de (1982) Arms & Armour in Spain II: A Short Survey[1], CSIC, pages 40&nsash; with photos shown in fig. 3 and 4. Hoffmeyer says Lobera is not this sword but another, kept at the Armoria Real, Madrid, catalogued "G21" (Hoffmeyrer, pp. 48--).
It is true that the pictured sword still retains what is presumably its 13th century hilt, and matches well the portrait painting of San Fernando in the w:Lobera (sword) article. Meanwhile the real "Lobera" has had its hilt replaced with a 16th century one making it anachronistic. However, an old inventory dating to 1503 says that the real "Lobera" had a "NO NO" marking on its blade, which corroborates the other (Royal Armory G21) sword as the genuine article, in spite of the modernized grip. --Kiyoweap (talk) 09:14, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
