As I understand it, the underground symbol is copyrighted. Is it allowed to make a photo of this? --128.148.34.133 09:30, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

AIUI, and IANAL so ICBW, the symbol is indeed under copyright (as well as being a trademark); however, photographs of items displayed in a public place (and whether or not the platform is sufficiently public is unclear) can also be the copyright of the photographer; in this case, Ed's copyright on the overall image exists in general, and is what he has released under the GFDL. Taking his image and manipulating in such a way that soley the London Underground roundel was displayed, although allowed under the GFDL, would likely cause the image to be a copy-vio. I'm not sure, but I think that this means that we can label this as GFDL, but certain derivatives may have legal complications.
This is a rather grey area, though. I would love to be wrong, and things made more simple (even if it means that this is a copy-vio, it would be nice to make things clear). Others?

SVG?[edit]

I'm not sure if logos belong on Commons or just Wikipedia, but there really should be an SVG of the logo saying "UNDERGROUND". 75.67.167.110 15:58, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
