Not Lord Edward Russell

[edit]

This picture appears to be Francis Russell, 9th Duke of Bedford, not Lord Edward Russell. See thread on the ENglish Wikipedia Reference Desk en:Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities#What uniform is Lord Edward Russell wearing? and the British Museum. Link to British Museum doesn’t work. What is the prove besides guesses based on age? KAVEBEAR (talk) 03:17, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Apart from the age being so obviously wrong for the date, the uniform is apparently that of the Scots Fusilier Guards, and blatantly not the Royal Navy. The BM link, which was working earlier, was the print catalogued as being of the 9th Duke. DuncanHill (talk) 03:29, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The BM link works for me. It describes the image as "Portrait of Francis Russell, 9th Duke of Bedford, over half length, standing very slightly to left, wearing military uniform with sash, sword on belt, holding a helmet in his right hand. 1842" and has further "Printed by: Johannes Höfelich / Print made by: Joseph Kriehuber", "Lettered in the stone with production details: 'Kriehuber / 842' and 'Gedt. bei Joh. Höfelich.'".  --Lambiam 16:43, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
