Looks like a pneumatic motor, as one can see (left upper in the picture) a covered axle with chain- or tooth-wheel, that seems to steer (more ways walve) the flow beetween three thin pressure tubes.

In the German article http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpedo it depicted wrong the chapter electric motor propulsion.

The oerview picture " Malta 463.jpg " shows the partially opened gas storage (pressure resistant design) cylinder with the exit hole towards the motor. --Helium4 (talk) 10:30, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
