Pakenham east extension

[edit]

Hi @Gracchus250. Are you able to update this image to include the Pakenham East station extension and to change the dates from 2021 to 2023? Much appreciated if you are able to. HoHo3143 (talk) 07:19, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done! I moved the airport link and SRL East to under construction. Let me know if there's anything to fix. Gracchus250 (talk) 09:39, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gracchus250 write somewhere that Suburban Rail Loop West is not included in the diagram as little information is known at the moment. Also maybe make a mention that Airport Rail Link is also known as SRL Airport. HoHo3143 (talk) 10:45, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tourist lines

[edit]

Would it be possible to also include lines reopened for tourist services? (Mornington, Puffing Billy, Yarra Valley) -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 08:57, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see if there's a way to put them in, I just don't want to complicate the map too much. Gracchus250 (talk) 10:17, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Missing closed lines

[edit]

The following closed lines are not included:

  • Mont Park
  • Rosstown Railway
  • Red Hills
  • Spring Vale Cemetery
  • St Kilda–Windsor
  • Somerton–Upfield link (reopening proposed as part of Wallan electrification)

@Gracchus250 (incase you haven't seen this) HoHo3143 (talk) 09:15, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@HoHo3143 @ThylacineHunter Thanks for tagging me, I didn't see this. Red Hill, Mont Park and Spring Vale Cemetery were all passenger branches so should all be added, I will put them in. I don't think Rosstown took passengers, so I don't think that should be included. I also don't think St Kilda-Windsor is worth including as it was only temporary/short lived.
I'm not sure about the Somerton-Upfield connection, did it ever take suburban passenger traffic or was it ever electrified? I could add it in but I'd have to add the regional line in, when the original map was more about metropolitan services. Gracchus250 (talk) 10:16, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I guessed it was only passenger lines shown, hence not suggesting any freight lines like Newport–Sunshine and Albion–Jacana (although they do have interstate passengers, but that's a different topic).
  • Rosstown Railway: taken from the Rosstown Railway, "on 14 November 1888 he hired two carriages from the Victorian Railways, and using one of the company locomotives" this would indicate there were passengers on the line, but as it was only 1 train, up to you if you include it.
  • St Kilda-Windsor: operational for 3 years (for comparison Fairfield to Riversdale on the outer circle was only 2 years).
  • Somerton–Upfield link: never electrified. It joins the Craigieburn line at Somerton (now Roxburgh Park), just before Craigieburn station, so no need to add the regional line at this time (forget Wallan electrification for now). As for passengers, "Between 1889 and 1903 Somerton was the junction station for the ‘suburban’ line to Melbourne via Coburg ... The Coburg line was reopened, but only to railmotors, in 1928 but the physical junction was not reinstated. The railmotors ceased running in 1956".Somerton. Victorian Signalling Histories. Andrew Waugh. Retrieved on 2023-02-26. This would suggest a passenger service.

Somerton–Upfield link: The words "Upfield line" are about the right height the connection should be on the Craigieburn line. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 12:28, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ThylacineHunter Ok great, thanks for the detailed info! I will start work on this soon. FYI I am working on a proper system map too. Gracchus250 (talk) 23:13, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
