Misleading directions

This image is used in the templates of many wikis to indicate "the content from another page should be merged into this page", see, e.g., en:Template:Merge from. Therefore, to indicate that the other page should come to the current page, the arrow should point toward the page, i.e to the right (since invariably the arrow is on the left part of the templates). Instead, the arrow points outwards.
Correspondingly, the image File:Merge-arrow.svg is used to indicate that the content of the current page should go to another page, see for example en:Template:Merge to, so the arrow should point outwards. Instead, it points inwards.
Therefore, the two images (Mergefrom) and (Merge-arrow) should be exchanged one another. --GianniG46 (talk) 23:37, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Invert direction

Hilarious! We could put an option: do you write [ ] left-to-right or [ ] right-to-left? But there are also languages written up to down (not the reverse, I believe). --GianniG46 (talk)

This is correct, in general, but in this case the contradiction is in the image, not in the templates. I can try to ask that the templates be changed. But you must admit that it will be hard to pretend that the template "Merge to" uses the image "Mergefrom" and viceversa! --GianniG46 (talk) 21:14, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Well, looking again at the diagram of the Merge arrow series, I think the directionality is fine. Your best bet might be to design better icons, as the square/arrow theme could be clearer (or ask someone else to, at Commons:Graphic Lab). As part of a new design, the directionality issue might disappear, or the directionality could be changed. Rd232 (talk) 22:09, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Also, you can potentially create a redirect, so that you can use the Mergefrom file via a different name. (I don't think that would really be an issue though.) Rd232 (talk) 22:11, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
