Updated link to discussion at my talk. I will hat the discussion there and continue discussion here. Why? Because one of the participants is now discussing the same thing here. I cannot participate there because Chinese Wikipedia is blocked here in China. Plus, it seems to be forum shopping. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:53, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Iflwlou: Did you create the original work from a source? Did you make it on your computer? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:05, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Iflwlou. I guess you didn't see this post. I see you are editing at zh wikipedia looking for support. Please, though, answer the question: Did you create the original work from a source? Did you make it on your computer?

Thanks. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:33, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

1.Yes, I reference the original work from a source. 2.Yes,I make it on my computer. I have answered this question a year ago.
Yes, I editing at zh wikipedia look for support, or find opinions are similar to yours, because in English I can't clear say what I want to say, and I don't ready clear know what you want. So, I need support. Find someone opinions are similar to yours, clear know what I miss in discuss, and what I need to provide in discuss.
And two answers which I answer in discuss many times. What outcome do I want? I want use it in a list of Chinese city emblem form past to now, I will not simplely just hang up the picture, I will explain its status and controversy. What I you want to happen? I went dig it out the history be hided.--Iflwlou (talk) 12:56, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

About using this image[edit]

Discussion continued from here and here:

My position:

It should not be used in infoboxes. It should only be used in articles with an explanation that it was only used from 1993-1997. I prefer it never be used. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:05, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My position:

1.No objection it should not be used in infoboxes. 2.Support of it should only be used in articles with an explanation that it was only used from 1993-1997. 3. Objection of "If I notice it being used, I will move it back to "unofficial" immediately.".--Iflwlou (talk) 13:00, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My two cents from a bystander: perhaps Iflwlou can make a draft in userspace and we then can judge the merits of the images. Unlike fictional flags (which are misleading but we still keep them on Commons for god knows what reason), these city emblems have a real place in history and we can certainly tell that story in an encyclopedic way. That said, I agree that these city emblems should not be in infoboxes or included in articles without proper context, and I am also concerned about the sourcing and copyright status of the emblem (reference is a dead link). Hi Underbar dk. Thanks for the input here. See also this. I am working out how to handle all of these emblems now.
The copyright status is something I had not even considered regarding these emblems/seals/coats of arms.
I will post at Iflwlou's talk page about possibly hunting down all emblem usage in all language Wikipedias and removing them where the source of the artwork is a blog, or where the artwork and source image is a serious mismatch. I do not want to see incorrect content in this Encyclopedia, whether it is text or imagery. Please feel free to join me at his talk, if you wish.
