Copyright information missing[edit]

@4throck: I have just noticed that, while the image of the parrot appears to be in the public domain, there is no copyright information regarding the gradients, or any info about the author of the gradients. If you are the author of the gradients, please:

  1. add the original image of the parrot with the gradients to Wikimedia commons
  2. add copyright information to that image
  3. link the image on this page to the original, so that everyone can see the copyright information

The gradients come from here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RGB_24bits_palette_color_test_chart.png 4throck (talk) 08:59, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank you for the link. However, that still doesn't solve the issues that I have raised.
In particular:
  1. The source image (MERD6DK_o.png), in true color, is not available on Wikimedia. You have (previously) provided me with a link to a third-party website that hosts that image.
  2. The gradients in the source image (MERD6DK_o.png) are slightly different (i.e. they have been edited) compared to the gradients you mention above. I suppose that you are the author of the edits. However, it appears that you haven't yet released your modifications under an appropriate license for use on Wikipedia.
  3. Both problems can be easily solved if you just upload the source image (MERD6DK_o.png) to Wikimedia. You should then clearly state that you are the author of the modifications and that you are releasing the modifications under an appropriate license. That would also be of great help to other Wikipedia editors, who would be able to easily make derivative works of the source image (MERD6DK_o.png), to improve the quality of images on the relevant pages.

@User:4throck, your assistance is required. Please, state whether you are or you are not the author of the modified gradients. If you are the author, then please upload the source image (MERD6DK_o.png) to Wikimedia. Z80Spectrum (talk) 22:31, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I spotted that I was wrong in one assumption: obviously, @4throck isn't the author of the edits in the gradient. Apparently, the user @User:JPxG was already using the modified gradients, here: [1]. So, I'll go ask @User:JPxG, because apparently, he didn't release his contrubutions under an appropriate license. Z80Spectrum (talk) 12:03, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now,wait I have completely confused the dates. I have to recheck it. I'm still not certain who is the supposed author. Z80Spectrum (talk) 12:15, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that @4throck is the author, he seems to be the one who first used the modified gradients. Z80Spectrum (talk) 12:17, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I release everything in this image PD forever and ever. I think the gradients are PD-ineligible. JPxG (talk) 19:06, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That would sound great in front of a judge: "I think". This is law, and you have to be sure. Also, various countries have various laws regarding PD-ineglibility.
Also, it is not up to you to release into PD, only the author of the modified gradients can release them into PD. I suppose that the author of the gradients is 4throck, based on [|this discussion]. In that discussion he also supplied me with a link to the source image on a third-party website.
The third issue is that other editors should be able to make derivative works, to improve the quality. Without the source image, this is impossible. Consequently, it is impossible to make better quality images than this image, because the source is sill missing.
Notify me when the source image is uploaded to Wikimedia. Until then, all arguments are a waste of time. Z80Spectrum (talk) 20:05, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Z80Spectrum please stop bothering me with these kind of things. This image (and others I've uploaded) are too generic and insignificant for me to care about licences or whatever issues. They only illustrate what's mentioned in the text and have no artistic or personal value. Also, please don't drag me into whatever issues you have with your own work on the commons. 4throck (talk) 17:59, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
