Out of date?

[edit]

There are several issues with this summary: For one, the complex relationship between the SDF and Syrian Government cannot accurately be summed up by hostility. While both sides have clashed at times, they have also fought together (even recently in Afrin), peacefully cohabitated and shared control (Qamishly, Arimah, Tel Rifaat) and many more. Government teachers still teach the government ciriculum in many schools in SDF held territories. Second, the "Free Syrian Army" is no longer one cohesive organization, instead being a label used by many different rebel groups, some even hostile to eachother. The NFL is not mentioned at all, and JFS/Al-Nusra is also now called Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham. Furthermore, Turkey considers the YPG a terror group, and not just the PKK. Since the YPG is the dominant group of the SDF, Turkey's attacks against the YPG should also be depicted as attacks on the SDF itself. It is also questionable how much the US and Turkey support eachother in today's situation, since American military bases in SDF-held areas present the main obstacle to the Turkish government's desire to invade Syria's north, push out the SDF and create a so-called "safe zone". I feel as though this graphic would be a lot more accurate a couple of years ago, but has since gone out of date due to recent geopolitical developments. I'd love to hear comments on the issue.
