Ingestion - microbe is engulfed by phagocyte with a sac called a phagosome b. digestion - phagosome merges with lysozymes (3), which becomes a phagolysosome. Microbe is broken down (cell walls, carboydrates, protiens, lipids, and nucleic acids). Also, letha oxidants (OCl- & H202) attack phagolysosome 4. Residual Bodies - Once the phagolysosome is kiied via chemical onslaught of lysozome, digestive enzymes, and oxidants, materials that cannot be further broken down remain. These are called residual bodies 5. unharmful residual bodies leave the phagocyte
