First. the illustration does not use "perspective" in the sense of things further away appearing smaller, foreshortening etc. Rather it uses "projection", as in Isometric projection, Oblique projection etc. But you're right that I kind of eyeballed the ellipses, since I didn't know how to calculate them exactly; if you have any idea how to correctly calculate their positioning, feel free to inform me...
