Sakhalin (Russia)
[編輯]In Sakhalin (Russia) use the Cape gauge. Now there is a conversion of a Dual gauge (Russian+Cape). Please fix it. --Insider (talk) 11:02, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Australia and Panama
[編輯]Map shows Australia has Standard Gauge however, Queensland uses 3'6" , Victoria uses 5'3", S.A. uses 3'6", Standard Gauge and 5'3", Tasmania is mainly narrow gauge.
The Wikipedia Rail transport in Panama article says that its railway was converted to standard gauge in 2000. That should probably be updated next time the map is being re-drawn. --103.246.102.152 01:30, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
map needs update
[編輯]This map is very inaccurate and out of date. It needs to be replaced with an SVG version of the newest PNG map. Until that happens I am changing all Wikipedia links to point to the more accurate PNG version. Tom walker (talk) 11:43, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
In Finland railway gauge is 1524 mm, which is 5 feet exactly
[編輯]The different green of Finland compared to Russia seems to hint that the difference in gauge was greater. In Russia it is 1520 mm and in Finland 1524 mm. ——Nikolas Ojala (留言) 16:14, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
- In the current version, Finland is marked as standard gauge and that's an error. It's still 1524 mm gauge here. --84.251.101.196 17:14, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
- Agreed, Finland should definitely be colored for 1524 mm, that's the gauge for the railway network. Only about 4 km of track is dual-gauge (1524 and 1435 mm) between Tornio in Finland and Haparanda in Sweden.
- Trams in Helsinki (operating since 1891) use 1000 mm, and the new tram network (since 2021) in Tampere uses standard gauge 1435. If only one of those has to be picked for the little square insert color, I would say 1000 mm. Previous (dismantled) tram systems Tampere and elsewhere used 1000 mm as well (with the exception of 1890-1892 in Turku, as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trams_in_Finland). 193.166.223.5 11:50, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- The weird thing is the SVG file is correct, showing Finland as majority 1524 mm with some 1520 mm, but the PNG files created from the SVG show Finland as majority 1435 mm. This isn't the only discrepancy: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, and Spain are also different between the SVG and PNGs. And those are just the ones I noticed with a quick look at Europe. Maybe the SVG->PNG conversion is failing? - Wikkiwonkk (留言) 11:31, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
- Okay I figured out the problem. The various classes applied to paths and circles were in the wrong order. Eg. for mainland Finland it was "land fix fi eu" (.fix is Finland without the Åland Islands). The CSS spec says that the most specific class should win, falling back to order when classes have the same level of specificity. Browsers, as one would expect, have the most robust CSS interpreters which is why the SVG looks fine in Firefox. Other programs aren't as robust (I tested a few) and just apply the classes in order, so for Finland the colour for .eu (#568dd0 for 1435 mm) was getting applied last, masking the colour for .fi (#148a37 for 1524 mm). Wikimedia's SVG to PNG converter seems to have the same limitation. So for maximum compatibility, when applying classes to objects order them from most general to most specific, eg. "land eu fi fix" for Finland. I corrected this for all the EU countries (Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, and Spain are now coloured correctly) and the dependencies of some EU countries, but there are others like British and American dependencies that still need to be checked. - Wikkiwonkk (留言) 14:51, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Afgahnistan must be White, NO rail!
[編輯]There is no railways in Afgahnistan, please, erase the black green color and change it for white (as Antartida). --188.171.58.9 09:37, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
- Have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_transport_in_Afghanistan
- Some sections of 1520 mm track are also mentioned in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_ft_and_1520_mm_gauge_railways#Network (with a source link that no longer works, but this is still backed up by the article above, I think. 193.166.223.5 11:42, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
Vatican City should be standard guage (it does have a railway station)
[編輯]The Vatican City is currently shown in gray (no railways) but actually it does have a short railway and station which is connected to the standard guage Italian railway. — 以上未簽名的留言是由該使用者加入的: Gareth.randall (留言 • 貢獻) 22:35, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Rostov-on-Don
[編輯]In Rostov-on-Don track gauge is 1435 mm. You can google it, or read in Russian Wikipedia.
Here is changed map. If you can replace it on Wikipedia. https://sendeyo.com/up/d/05f7af9e8c
Corsica
[編輯]The island of Corsica, part of France, should nonetheless be updated to have metre-guage rail, if possible. This should potentially also be noted in the main article. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemins_de_Fer_de_la_Corse
Sam Marino
[編輯]In 2019 has been reopened, maily as a Museum Railway, but there are plans to restore over a longer distance and use something inbetween a tourist line and a metro service a section of the old San marino- Rimini railway (using old restored rolling stock, but new rails (with concrete ties... ooops) and aerial line. gauge is 950 mm as in origin, but electrification is only 750V (instead of original 2400) See https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrovia_Rimini-San_Marino — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2001:B07:5D38:6EE0:AB1C:D316:1F13:6DFC (talk) 18:28, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
Isle of Man has railways

Irish broad gauge
[編輯]The original version of this image correctly showed Ireland as using 1600mm broad gauge. However, the latest version depicts Ireland as using 1435mm standard gauge. 16:11, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- This has now been fixed. The EU class (1435 mm) was overriding the Ireland class. - Wikkiwonkk (留言) 13:45, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Northern Ireland also uses Irish gauge and should be coloured separately from Great Britain, as was the case in older versions (1 December and prior). BegbertBiggs (留言) 19:34, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Spain
[編輯]Spain should be two-colored on the map because Spain use two gauge in regular use: Iberian-gauge (1,668 mm) in regional trains and Standard (1,435 mm) in en:AVE. Subtropical-man (留言) 23:54, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
Taiwan
[編輯]Taiwan should have three gauges, the standard gauge is used on numerous metro systems and high-speed rail, Cape gauge on TRA railways, and 762mm gauge for en:Taiwan Sugar Railways. --owennson(Meeting Room聊天室、Certificates獎座櫃) 07:27, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
Sakhalin
[編輯]Remove the dot for 1067 mm in Sakhalin. Sakhalin finished conversion to 1520 mm in 2020. 2806:10A6:5:4894:0:0:0:1 19:30, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
New version with embedded legend
[編輯]I took this file and added a legend: Rail gauge world with legend.svg. The text in the legend has French and Spanish translations, as best as my limited French and Spanish allowed (better and additional translations would be welcomed). The decision of what to do with these two files I leave to others. - Wikkiwonkk (留言) 16:15, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
Jamaica, Fiji and Saint Kitts & Nevis
[編輯]They should all be coloured Grey as they have no official railways. St Kitts has a tourist railway but that isn't an official railway. HelpfulHens (留言) 16:04, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Why does it matter if it's an "official" railway? If it's in use and it's the only railway in the country, then that's the track gauge used in that country. Akeosnhaoe (留言) 10:30, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
How to update the map
[編輯]I downloaded the map, made changes and now I want to upload the updated version of the map to the site, but for some reason I can’t upload the map. The error "File overwriting not allowed, You attempted to overwrite a file that was not initially uploaded by you. You currently do not have sufficient permissions to do this." What can be wrong? Previously I was able to update the map.
PS I used to update the map incorrectly (via an image editor), now I update the map in a text editor. PSS I want to update the map because in Indonesia we need to add a quad (in this country there is a standard gauge on the high-speed section) Rtfroot (留言) 15:41, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
- This is due to a change in Commons policy (Commons:Overwriting existing files) that was discussed in August and September (Commons:Village pump/Proposals/Archive/2023/08#Limit file overwriting to users with autopatrol rights), and implemented at the end of October. It has been controversial (see Commons talk:Overwriting existing files) mostly because contributors (myself included) did not learn about the policy change (nevermind the discussion leading up to it) until we tried to update a file and got the error message.
- Long story short, a request has to be made at Commons:Overwriting existing files/Requests to make a file overwriteable. - Wikkiwonkk (留言) 15:43, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Czech Republic, Poland and Ghana
[編輯]Poland and the Czech Republic have narrow-gauge railways with rail gauges from 750 mm to 800 mm. However, Ghana has standard gauge railway lines with a rail gauge of 1,435 mm and from what I managed to read, they will be moving to this gauge, departing from Cape gauge.
