These chaps are PPPPPrussian grenadiers and musketeers. Standing from left to right: 1. Gren. officer/Bn. Weiss, 2. Grenadier/Bn. Weiss 3. Grenadier/Zöge v. Manteuffel 4. Grenadier/Rgt. Prinz Wilhelm 5. Musketeer/Rgt. Prinz Wilhelm. Sitting from left to right: 1. Grenadier/Rgt. Essen 2. Grenadier/Rgt. Kettenburg 3. (bottom right corner) Grenadier/Rgt. Prinz August. See the uncropped image - The guy who uploaded them to his page made the error originally, as you can read names of Prussian regiments under the image from the same page. Error won't show here as clearly, because the image was cropped before uploading here.--Ukas (talk) 04:43, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, the link belongs to New York Public Library. No wonder. "Prussia, Russia, they're all the same... hmm, Zöge von Manteuffel, yeah it sounds like Russian to me..." lol --Ukas (talk) 04:57, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Don't let the German names fool you. The source (from a book in German) describes how Tsar Peter III of Russia, who had sympathies for Prussia, set up military units following the Prussian model. In particular, his guards consisted mostly of German soldiers. The picture shows the Tsar's soldiers, they may have come from Germany, but they have become Russian soldiers. --Schlosser67 (talk) 21:39, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
