Is that really Virginia? Those trees don't look very Virginia-like. Sfoske70 (talk) 22:53, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with [User:Sfoske70|Sfoske70]. I would dispute the use of this photo file for Virginia. It is likely islander, Caribbean and possibly Spanish colonial; not likely English, maybe perhaps coastal deep SE colonies like the Carolinas, Georgia or Florida, but very doubtful, likely Hispaniola/Cuba.

The palms are not suitable for the Virginia climate, which has primarily short needle palms and sabal varieties; he domesticated turkey derived from Mexico -- wild turkey is continental, but not the same; the female slaves appear topless while a woman of European-dissent looks on -- very unlikely; the tobacco (if even tobacco) is being air-dried, indicating coastal breezes (Virginia tobacco had to be largely fire-dried due to inland humidity); the grain-working appears large; and the nets would indicate coastal or island regions; and so on.Virtualkelly (talk) 13:29, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
