Appearance and digital television[edit]

Considering that the United States no longer broadcasts analogue television broadcast signals, these older model of television sets don't receive signal any longer. This older appearance may be somewhat iconic, but it seems anachronistic when all modern American television broadcast signals are digital, and most modern television sets designed to pick up a digital signal look very different from the one in this picture. Shouldn't the model in the picture be the generic appearance of a typical digital television? E.g. high-definition 12x7-dimension. - Gilgameshkun (talk) 05:53, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image of a television with rounded edges to the screen and two knobs to control the channel and volume was out-of-date and anachronistic long before the advent of digital television. It is, however, an iconic image that seems closely associated in popular culture with the television, whereas a generic image of a typical digital TV now would be pretty much indistinguishable from any other flat panel.
