Contrast for color blind people

[编辑]

@Koavf: @Patrick: In order to avoid an edit war, let's discuss here if changes need to be done for the image to be color blind friendly.

The original image used dark green to highlight additional characters from ISO-8859-1. Edit 1 changed this to yellow since color blind people may have difficulties telling dark green and red apart. However, this color was very difficult to read, so Edit 2 changed it to lime green, which is easier to read and still bright enough to be distinguishable from red. However Edit 3 did not consider this to be readable enough and reverted to the original dark green.

Which is the best solution?

  1. Change it back to lime green. (Sample: REDGREEN)
  2. Leave it as dark green despite of it not being easy to tell apart from red by color blind people. (Sample: REDGREEN)
  3. Use an intermediate shade of green (#00CC00) which (I hope) is readable enough and distinguishable enough from red. (Sample: REDGREEN)
  4. Use another color.

PS: whichever solution is picked, remember to change the description accordingly.

Just use a different color (e.g. purple). Why be hostile to colorblind users, Patrick? —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:03, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[回复]
The main thing is to have clear characters, with good contrast to the background. This should not suffer from showing a subdivision into three groups, which is a minor issue that can be dealt with in other ways (even two division lines). - Patrick (留言) 21:57, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[回复]
If the goal is clarity, I would choose a more readable font than Courier New, which may be too thin to be easily readable; for example, DejaVu Sans Mono or Droid Sans Mono. As you can see here, the thicker lines of DejaVu Sans Mono provide a greater readability, so there would be more flexibility with colors (a lighter green would be easier to read, and a darker green would be easier to tell apart from red). Personally I would advocate for DejaVu Sans Mono and #00CC00 green. —Cousteau (留言) 11:13, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[回复]
