Colors should be reversed
[edit]Red (hot) should be where the people are most, not blue (cold). Jidanni (talk) 20:24, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- I would have expected the same. However, I think the map can be altered to produce this result simply by inverting the hues and shifting them around. JIP (talk) 18:26, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
- I have uploaded a new version with the colour hues inverted. JIP (talk) 18:53, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
Calculation & Data
[edit]I am really interested in this image but have a hard time really understanding whats happening here and what is really behind it. Here is what I think is happening, please correct me if I am wrong:
- Population of each country is concentrated into a single weighted point at its center
- The mean of these weighted points is calculated
- The distances from every point on earth to this mean point via geodesic arcs is calculated
- The distances are visualized via color
IF this is what happened here, then the description is wrong. "Now red means more population density and blue means less." No density is visible in the image, the color just transports distances. --Pizzaschneider (talk) 09:27, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
