IMHO in the current state, this image can only be used to illustrate the Wikipedia articles. An illustration for Writing systems of the world shouldn't be that much "Wikipedia". --84.144.49.94 13:24, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Problems with Image:WritingSystemsOfTheWorld.png

There is a problem with the Iranian part of the map; Iranians speak and write Persian or Farsi which is completely different than Arabic. Similar to French and English some words migrate to each languages but the roots and basics are completely different. Iranians also use some letters that even can not be pronounce in Arabic countries. If you do some research on the matter, you may wish to change the Iranian section of the map to more informative one.

There are two problems with this map:

Inuktitut is misspelled "Inukitut". Punjabi is a language, not a script. The script that should be listed is Gurmukhi.

I agree, it's lovely! However, the main language of East Turkistan (a.k.a Xinjiang, western China) is Uyghur, written in the Perso-Arabic alphabet. And I think Tibetan uses a Brahmi-based alphabet too... Brilliant work, though! :-) QuartierLatin1968 18:30, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Malaysia mainly uses the Latin alphabet (the Arabic alphabet being somewhat restricted to religious use, I think), though the two alphabets are more or less equal in Brunei... AnonMoos 09:18, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

If we're talking about scripts, then Japan has 3 (4 if you include latin script, which is used regularly): Katakana (カタカナ), Hiragana (ひらがな), and Kanji (漢字). My feeling is that you should actually list all three, since they are all used all the time. In other words, "Japanese" (日本語) is the spoken language, but it is written in a combination of Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji (and sometimes latin alphabet as well). Wikipedia would indeed be written in Katakana, though, so I'm not sure what the solution is here, in terms of accuracy. The Dark Rabbit (talk) 10:58, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

You should have a Japanese person weigh-in on which script system is correct. Both Hiragana and Katakana are used as phonetic representations. However, Katakana is only used to represent foreign names. The reason Katakana is used on the Japanese Wikipedia is that the very name "Wikipedia" is a foreign name, phonetically spelled out. I think a Kanji of "Japanese" is appropriate (日本語).

west african languages

the alphabets used in west african languages like akan and bambara count as latin as well, even they include other characters? examples:

Some errors...

Persian language

The map shows writing systems, not languages. Then Nastaʿlīq is a calligraphic hand of the Arabic alphabet. So it isn't a writing system for itself and thus not shown on the map: Persia is part of the Arabic alphabet family. --Chumwa (留言) 08:39, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
