New study; is this image still accurate?

[edit]

@Christinelmiller: Thanks for this great image, it's very useful! I was thinking of adding it to https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2966734 (and likely w:Y chromosome later) since it is more intelligible for most readers and possibly more representative and informative than the other image there. However, why does it say "Approx. 150 genes" when w:Y chromosome says The human Y chromosome carries 693 genes, with 107 of these being protein-coding, but some genes are repeated and that makes the number of exclusive protein-coding genes just 42? Moreover, in August there was this study apparently uncovering "41" additional genes – does that mean the linked Wikipedia article lead, which probably is outdated now, should state 693 genes, with 148 of these being protein-coding (and the 42 being replaced as well somehow)? Or how do these numbers change and does this image of yours remain accurate? And what do you think of more or less replacing that other image with this one? Thanks for the comments. I think that the 150 genes is referring to the number of protein coding genes - this is a simplified version of another graphic I had been using in my college preparatory classes - and we don't go into non-protein coding genes. Please do feel free to edit and reshare - if you are wanting this change, others probably are as well :) 206.123.180.172 17:10, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
