Summary[edit]

Description
English: The AnantaSamakhom Throne Hall is located at the very end of Ratchadamnoen Nok Road, next to the Royal Plaza, also known as the Equestrian Plaza, and is part of Dusit Palace. Construction of the hall started in 1907, during the reign of King Rama V, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his ascension to the throne – once longer than any other past kings, to serve as a reception hall, and completed in the reign of King Rama VI, a total period of 8 years. A long period of construction was due to several difficulties, including a potential subsidence due to marshy location. E.G. Gollo an Italian engineer then decided to use timbers tied together to support underneath the foundation which bears massive weight of more than hundred thousand pieces of marble, all of which were crafted in an art factory in Carrara, Italy. Designed in Italian Renaissance art, the throne hall was a construction with a tall and large dome in the centre surrounded by 6 smaller domes, resembling that of the Basilica of Superga in northern Italy as King Rama V intended the throne hall to be the masterpiece and the iconic architecture at the heart of the capital city, like St. Peter's Basilica of Vatican City State.
