Summary[edit]

Description
English: Perception underestimates the distance between successive taps to the skin. Stimuli are illustrated in the upper panels, along with their perception (forearm sketches). Corresponding human data (points) and Bayesian model fits (curves) are plotted in the lower panels. Panels (A) and (B) illustrate length contraction associated with two-tap stimuli. Panel (C) shows a four-tap version of the cutaneous rabbit illusion. For a full description, see Figure 1 of Goldreich D, Tong J (2013) Prediction, postdiction, and perceptual length contraction: a Bayesian low-speed prior captures the cutaneous rabbit and related illusions.
