Summary[edit]

Description
English: Giuseppe Gioachino Belli was a roman poet who lived in Rome in the first half of the 19th century.

At his time, Rome was under the roman catholic pope. He is the first who dared to write poems in the roman dialect which was - and is still - particularly coarse and direct.

In this sonnet, Li dilitti d'oggiggiorno (Crimes of today), the poet tells about a despicable priest and his mean judge ...

Don Marco was accused of adultery
and the pope released him as innocent.
He fucked Saverio's sons right up the ass
and the pope said «That's not true at all!».

He committed frauds, thefts and an infinity
of diabolic and nasty tricks against so many people
and the pope, with extreme solemnity,
«We don't want to believe a thing!».

At the end, yesterday, for god's will,
an informer whispered in his ear just two simple words
«Holy Father, Don Marco is freemason».

And the Holy Father, that very moment,
feeling he was threatened in his weak point,
condemned him by himself, without a process.
