DescriptionBlowing up the Stalin Monument.jpg |
English: In 1956, Krushchev revealed that the beloved dictator had been a bit of a tyrant and the monument became something of an embarrassment to the Czech government.
Its presence, towering over Prague, became increasingly incongruous and after years of prevarication the government made a decision. In 1962 the order was given for its demolition with the instruction: "destroy it without too much of a bang. Its destruction should be quick and seen by as few people as possible". So, they blew it up...Deutsch: Sprengung des Stalin-Denkmals in Prag 1962 |
