Description
English: Basilica of the Holy Blood in Bruges, Belgium. The church is a Roman Catholic minor basilica originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders. It houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders.

Dit was de huiskapel van de graven van Vlaanderen, meer bepaald van Diederik van de Elzas, graaf van Vlaanderen (die het Heilig Bloed naar Brugge zou hebben gebracht).Het Heilig of Kostbaar Bloed van Brugge is een reliek van het Heilig Bloed van Jezus Christus, dat hier bewaard wordt. Het is een van de populairste relieken van België; dagelijks wordt ze vereerd tijdens de openingsuren van de basiliek.
