Summary[edit]
DescriptionBursa Şehzade Mustafa Türbesi 5970.jpg |
English: Sehzade Mustafa’s tomb contains several other members of the family, Ahmed (son of Bayezit II, died 1513) and Orhan (son of Sehzade Mustafa), as well as Mustafa’s mother Mahi Devran and a child. The Iznik tiles are of high quality.
The tomb was built on initiative of Şehzade (Prince) Selim (the future Selim II) in 1555, two years after the death of Prince Mustafa (who was strangled on orders of his father, Süleyman the Magnificent). It has an octogonal floor plan. Above the tiled part, the walls are painted. This kind of work, called ‘kalem işi’ (= work of the pen/paintbrush), is inspired on the geometric or stylised ornamentations used by Ottoman calligraphers to illuminate books. |
